Spinal cord injury: Anything that can cause pressure, gradually or suddenly, may injure the spinal cord. That would include arthritis, herniated disc, tumor, infections. Instability would allow the cord to be stretched or bruised: after trauma, rheumatoid arthritis, surgery. Vascular abnormalities could interfere with spinal cord circulation like a stroke. Abnormal spinal fluid flow could cause internal cord damage.
