A member asked:

How could you have an injury to the spinal cord without any damage or injury to the spinal column and vertebrates? if the cord is inside the vertebral column then how could the cord be injured without the bones also being damaged?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Cord injury: The bony part of the spine may withstand the trauma but the softer spinal cord may sustain a contusion or worse as it bangs against the vertebra during the impact.
