A member asked:

Why do doctors today assume that a patient wants to be sedated for every thing?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Reduce Pain/Anxiety: Wish you had cited a specific procedure. Generally proc like colonoscopy are done with sedation to reduce anxiety/pain and make it easier for the doctor to do the procedure which is also a commonly cited reason why sedation is preferred in many procedures. This may sound rude, but why would anyone want to risk a miserable experience when appropriately administered sedation is so safe/effective?
