My mom broke her ear drum membrane and needs to have surgery, is this dangerous?

Shouldn't be: When did she break it? Usually ear drum breaks heal on their own. If she broke it less than 6 weeks ago ask her doctor why he/she feels it has to be fixed now. The procedure to fix it is fairly simple.
