Shellfish confusion: Itching from shellfish such as shrimp can be due to allergy (ige mediated), but in some people can be a direct histamine release reaction (non ige mediated). The reason to differentiate is that the ige mediated reactions can worsen progressing to possible fatal anaphylaxis. The non ige mediated are annoying, but rarely progress.
