Speak to your doc: It is not comfortable to have a tube passing through you throat to get the procedure done. Most doctors who perform this may prefer a rather brief and safe intravenous conscious sedation to allow a smooth procedure without complication.

Yes: The gag reflex has to be obtunded. Topical analgesia with sedation is typically used.
