What is fontan operation for heart disease?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

For single ventricle: The fontan operation (or total cavopulmonary anastomosis) is a type of palliative heart surgery for patients with univentricular (or single ventricle) heart disease. It involves redirecting the systemic venous return from the body directly to the lung (pulmonary) arteries (bypassing the ventricle) so that the single ventricle can be used to pump oxygenated blood return from the lungs to the body.
