Yes.: In cases of hand amputation where the amputated part is not salvageable, hand transplantation may be an option. This is an extremely complicated procedure performed in only a few medical centers around the country. The transplanted hand never functions like the original hand; sensation, strength, and movement are all likely to be significantly impaired.

Yes: I helped coordinate a multiorgan procurement from a brain dead donor. Both hands were procured. They went to a young patient who had lost both hands to an infection. Several months later i received drawings done by this patient. They were better drawings than i could do with my hands. The hand transplant apparently worked well.
