Optimal treatment is often specific to the cause of the disease process (alcoholism, viral hepatitis, metabolic disorder, intrinsic liver disease, neoplastic process - just to name few) start with your primary physician - many are good at managing chronic liver issue. Maybe none: In esld (end-stage liver disease), much of liver has been replaced by scarring & may not repair itself. Some esld causes: viral infection (b, c, CMV are common), familial (hemochromatosis, wilson's, alpha-1-antitrypsin deficiency, others), toxic/environmental/occupational, alcohol related. Has higher risk of liver cancer. If compensated, asymptomatic; get symptoms if progressive disease +/- alcohol.
