Several types : There a many ways.A blood test for liver functions can give evidence of a normal healthy level of things made by the liver(or not). Some blood tests reveal markers of liver injury or evidence of specific infections or defects. A ct scan can look for evidence of abcesses or change of texture &size. A biopsy requires passage of a lg needle into the liver to get a piece for special tests.

Blood Tests: Most of the liver diseases can be diagnosed by blood testing. Ultrasound or ct can also tell how the liver looks. More rarely, tests such as ERCP are needed to look at the bile ducts.
