Yes: A bad tooth is an infected tooth. The infection spreads from the tooth into the bone.

Yes & No: If the tooth is infected there is an abscess at the end of the root. The abscess is in a sac and does not enter into the bone. But, the abscess causes bone loss as it enlarges.
