No: Cereal should not be provided to a 1 month old. Their oropharygeal motor mechanism is not fully functional (they do not have the necessary swallowing ability). We usually recommend starting rice cereal at around 4 months of age. Recommend your dr work up the frequent vomiting. Baby's probably hungry due to emesis of all its food. Concerns would include pyloric stenosis. Good luck.

No: Do not give solid food (including cereal) to a 1 month old. If he is vomiting that much he needs to be further evaluated by the pediatrician. Gastroesophageal reflux is the most common cause, however, pyloric stenosis is also a possibility as are other gastrointestinal anatomic abnormalities.

Is it really hunger?: The 1 month old is a rapidly growing infant that needs fuel to grow. They will feed more often than older infants.Yet many parents are confused by non-nutritive (self calming) sucking behavior as a sign they need more. Babies are wired to survive and often suck 24/7 it does not always mean hunger. Back off and feed as baby wakes, and not again until after a nap/sleep. You are overfeeding baby.
