Why is it illegal to commit suicide?

Ethical Beliefs: Most of the laws about suicide derived from ethical or spiritual beliefs. These laws go back at least as far as greek culture. In modern times they derive from the idea that only god can decide when a person dies. They are designed to discourage suicide. What their actual effects are is unknown.
