A member asked:

When did gestational diabetes become a diagnosis and how long does it last?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Since inception: Pregnancy has always had gestational diabetes since womankind has been able to conceive. We are more aware in the 21st century of its' implications with fetal death and macrosomia(large babies). Diabetes can get worse during the pregnancy, but can stop after delivery. However, it is an early warning sign that as the woman ages, it may return as adult onset diabetes mellitus.
