Up to 12 hours: Short-acting Focalin (dexmethylphenidate) lasts 4-6 hours. Focalin (dexmethylphenidate) xr should last up to 12 hours.

Not long. : Even though it's called "xr, " it lasts no longer than 4-6 hrs. Most people need three doses of Focalin (dexmethylphenidate) xr to get through a day. But it's a smooth efficient stimulant for add, & deserves consideration if the patient has comorbid anxiety or depression. Or if another stimulant caused depression or anxiety.
