Get a balanced diet: Study after study shows that short-term diets are not effective in maintaining weight loss. What you need is lifestyle changes and eat in a healthy way from now on. Fewer carbohydrates and fats along with increased reliance on vegetables will be very helpful. Activity is also important so a regular exercise program is recommended. Make healthy lifestyle changes and avoid the yo-yo dieting.

Work with dietition: Eat a balanced diet based on your pre-pregnancy weight, with the supplemental vitamins needed for baby. You can lose weight gradually as the baby takes the excess off in your milk. Some will need to work with a clinical dietitian (hospitals have them) to learn proper portion control and choices. After baby weans and you remain within the same guidelines you should be happy.
