Pre-diabetes: An A1c of 6.1% means you have pre-diabetes. Treatment for pre-diabetes include diet and exercise, metformin, or combination of both. Studies have shown that diet/exercise can decrease your risk of getting diabetes by 58%, metformin use can decrease it by 31%. Your doctor have chosen to do both. This is a common practice and a decision made by both of you.
