A member asked:

Why does my skin swell up after being bitten by a mosquito?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Bug juice reaction: The mosquito, and other blood sucking creatures like leeches, inject chemicals into their victim to slow clotting. Your body reacts to that stuff, releasing histamines amongst other things, which causes local swelling and itching. Application of ice to an itching bump can help.
