A member asked:

As a lesbian with hsv-1 genital, how can i prevent my partner from getting it while still being intimate?

Timing: The answer i give my patients about herpes and intimacy is try to avoid the times when the virus is at its active time and there fore spreadable. Once a sore has "dried up" it is usually ok to enjoy the company of your partner.

She probably has it: If it's really hsv-1 rather than hsv-2, your partner probably already has it anyway; most adults do. She can find out for sure with an antibody test.
