What symptoms are associated with torch syndrome?

Torch symptoms: Symptoms of torch infection may include fever and poor feeding. Newborns are usually small for their gestationsal age. They may also have a reddish or purplish spotted rash on skin, jaundice ( skin yellowing), and an enlarged liver and spleen. Finally, hearing impairment, eye problems and mental retardation can also be caused by the torch infections. The mother often has mild or no symptoms.

Multiple: The original torch complex described clinically similar congenital infections caused by toxoplasma gondii, rubella virus, cytomegalovirus, herpes simplex virus, types 1& 2, syphilis.Skin manifestations: rush, jaundice, vesicles, oral ulcers, or conjunctivitis; brain calcification, chorioretinitis, retinopathy, microcephaly; deafness, congenital heart disease, intrauterine growth retardation.
