TORCH tests: Torch is the acronym for toxoplasmosis, rubella, CMV (cytomegalovirus) and herpes. To determine if your baby has one of these virus infections blood tests are done.

TORCHES: The TORCH screen is a group of blood tests that check the presence of antibodies for several different infections that may be present. TORCH stands for toxoplasmosis, rubella, cytomegalovirus, herpes simplex, and HIV, but it can also include other newborn infections. Sometimes the test is spelled TORCHS, where the extra "S" stands for syphilis.
