If the patient is awake and her bowels are working, and can eat safely without aspirating, a balanced meal (meat, vegetables, carbs) is a sound idea. Many people with sepsis are too ill to eat on their own; there is some data to support using special tube feeds in sepsis, but not enough for that to be the standard of care.

Depends: It's more important what you eat before you get sick than after. Diets high in omega 3 fatty acids are protective against sepsis. Once sepsis occurs there is evidence that tube feedings high in omega 3 fatty acids and antioxidants may improve clinical outcomes.
