Lack of protection: After menopause the volume of protective secretions by the cervix and vagina diminish which is the first line of defense for bacterial "invaders". Use of feminine products/douches & soaps can exacerbate the risk of cervicitis. Local GYN MD prescribed estrogen cream can help if the vagina is dry and the epithelium thin to minimize recurrences.
