NO: Lorazepam (ativan) and diazepam(valium) belong to the same family of drugs (benzodiazepines) there are a number of meds that belong to this group. They have their own specific effects as minor tranquilizers.

No: As dr lotfi says, both Lorazepam and diazepam are in the same class of medication, but they are different. Lorazapam has a half life of about 12 hours, while diazepam has a half life of more than 40 hours. Half life means that in that amount of time, half of the medication is out of your body as you can see, diazepam has a very long half life.
