Possible, but......: Although a lump for a year could be cancer, there are many more common reasons for the lump. Best to get this checked by your doctor or oral surgeon to get a definitive answer.

A possibility: It would be wise to have a dentist evaluate this, possibly remove it and have it sent to an oral pathologist to determine if is something to be worried about. Valtrex (valacyclovir) is an antiviral drug and ususally works on lesions of viral origin within several days.

Insufficent : Information. The lesion needs to examined and perhaps removed and submitted to a pathologist for microscopic study. If it has persisted for over a year, it is time to see your doctor.

Possibly: Any kind of long standing lesion that does not respond to therapy should definitely be checked out. My gut feeling is that its not cancerous but you really need to get this checked out in person. Please go soon.
