Yes, it's toxic: Yes, formalin is toxic -- that's why they ventilate anatomy labs well (at least in good medical schools). It's also carcinogenic. Recently, i learned something else: that the hairdressing technique called "brazilian blow-out" also involves formaldehyde gas -- it's emitted in the process. http://www.nytimes.com/2012/03/06/business/brazilian-blowout-agrees-to-a-4-5-million-settlement.html.
