Can you tell me about formalin (used to preserve dead bodies)?

Formaldehyde: Formalin is a 10% solution of Formaldehyde. It acts on proteins to denature them and keep the tissues from undergoing lysis. It is also used in a large number of chemical and manufacturing processes including the production of urea-formaldehyde foam used in insulation.

Embalming: When a body is embalmed, the body fluids are replaced with fluids containing formalin (formaldehyde). The natural body fluids are then disposed of. The formalin will preserve tissues and slow down natural decay (decomposition).
