Is it necessary to do a salt water rinse after wisdom teeth removal?

No: Salt water is a convenient vehicle for flushing away debris from your surgical site. Because the area of surgery will be sore, you will want to avoid cleaning it with a toothbrush, and rinsing with salt water is a useful alternative. Dissolving salt will make the water more "isotonic" and less irritating to the area, but rinsing with plain water will serve equally well.

No: Rinsing with salt water is not an absolute requirement, but is recommended as a physiologic rinse to help with the postoperative healing.
