Symptoms: First, schizophrenia (scz) has it's most common age of onset in the late teens or early 20s. A new diagnosis of scz for someone over the age of 40 is unusual. Then, the symptoms have to do with something called psychosis, i.e. Hallucinations and/or delusions. Finally, there are other conditions which may cause a person to become psychotic, including some physical causes. A psychiatrist can help.

Your Dad needs: To be evaluated by his family doctor first to rule out medical illnesses. If medically cleared, he will need to be evaluated by a psychiatrist in your area.
