X-ray: The best way would be either an x-ray or diagnostic ultrasound.

Visit your local: Podiatrist and and your feet examined. The presence of a spur can easily be determined with an x-ray. Keep in mind, however, that spurs are responsible for heel pain only about 1% of the time. Pain is more commonly caused by plantar fasciitis and spurs are merely the calcifcation of the attachment of the plantar fascia to the heel.
