Extra bone: Heel spurs are extra bone formed by pull of the plantar fascial ligament on its insertion at the bottom of the calcaneus bone. Plantar fasciitis is inflammation of the plantar fascial ligament. If you do not have pain associated with the heel spur then you do not need to do anything for them. Heel spurs can only be removed surgically.
