Folic acid: If you are on birth control and/or are sexually active, i recommend Folic Acid in the event that you do get pregnant. Studies have shown that Folic Acid needs to be taken for one month prior to conception. Most women do not find out they are pregnant until one month after conception. Therefore, it is best to be on Folic Acid regardless of pregnancy plans.

ABSOLUTELY!: Take 1-5 mg of Folic Acid daily throughout your reproductive years (i.e. Until menopause, hysterectomy or bilateral tubal ligation). 50% of us pregnancies are unplanned and then it is too late to take folic acid. It can prevent preterm birth, birth defects (neural tube, cardiac) and enhance fetal growth.
