Depends: It depends on the severity of the eczema -- generally you want to use the weakest medicine that will fix the problem. If you have fissures (cracks) in the skin, creams can sting, ointments (vaseline-like) work better. Strength ranges from Hydrocortisone (over the counter) to very strong prescription meds.
