Sleep stages: The sleep stages are 1, 2, 3 and rem or more commonly called dream sleep. Sleep becomes deeper as you progress from 1 to 3. You can dream in any stage. As sleep gets deeper arousal from sleeping is more difficult. The distribution of stages changes over ones lifetime.
