Two types: There are two types, one caused by trypanosoma brucei gambiense and the other caused by trypanosoma brucei rhodesiense. They vary in terms of geographic distribution within africa. T.B. Gambiense causes a chronic disease, whereas t.B. Rhodesiense is more acute.
