37 weeks: The closest one can be comfortable with a spontaneous labor and delivery is 37 weeks, since that would be a term pregnancy. The risks of prematurity decrease the closer one is to that date.

False vs true labor: It is common for women to have periodic contractions late in pregnancy & these need to be watched & reported to the OB per their protocol. While survival rates are good for premi's over 34 weeks, the best environment for that infant is the womb not an icu.About half of babies born at 34-35 wks will end up on oxygen & or a ventilator with premature lung disease. Early labor can sometimes be stopped.
