Healthy diet: Eating a normal healthy diet will provide your body the proper nutrients to heal your body. Discontinuation of smoking prior go surgery and for at least 6 weeks post surgery would beneficial.

Stay hydrated: Avoid alcohol and drink a lot of water to stay well hydrated and just eat sensibly with higher protein content with a lot of ruffage like vegetables as pain post op and medication can lead to constipation. Watch out for any supplements that may affect bleeding like fish oil.

Varies: It varies tremendously based upon the nature of the surgery being done. Some surgeries on the spine have no real dietary restrictions and others have strict requirements. You wou, d certainly want to avoid foods which could potentially cause you nausea. Nicotine and antiinflammatories can potentially delay healing. Thank you for the question.
