A member asked:

What does it mean if you have a blood test done and the d-dimer is positive with a count of around 4.6?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Limited without more: The d-dimer is a fibrin degradation product (or fdp) which represents a small protein fragment in blood after a blood clot is broken down. The value can be used to test for clotting or thrombosis problems. However, a single value or a value in isolation should not be used. Therefore, a value of 4.6 means nothing. There are factors that can cause false readings.
