T brucei -2 types: East african trypanosomiasis is caused by trypanosoma brucei rhodesiense. West african trypanosomiasis (gambian sleeping sickness) is caused by trypanosoma brucei gambiense. Both of these blood borne diseases are transmitted by the tsetse fly.
