Type of Pain: Both gallbladder(gb) attacks and ibs can cause right-upper abdominal pain, esp after eating. Gb pain is typically steady/noncramping whereas ibs is typically cramping. Gb pain is like an on/off switch--it's there and then gone; ibs tends to wax and wane. Both may be associated w/diarrhea, although more typical w/ibs. Of course, stones seen on an ultrasound would tip the scale.
