Muscle spasm?: I have seen several people over the years also describing this associated with a "lump" that goes down with self massage. Sounds like a hernia, but proven many times not to be. Not the right location for a hernia either. The most likley cuse is intermittent muse (alprostadil) spasm, which can be treated with over the counter meds, massage, and maybe muscle relaxing meds. Ask your primary about this.
