Common problem : This is a remarkably common problem now. There are many strategies to help. Holding your teen accountable for his actions is best approach. Parents must support each other, & not give in to teen. This problem usually starts in childhood when kids were allowed to do what they wished without consequence. If problems occur elsewhere (school) there may be a medical condition involved. See your docotor.

Let go: Over the coming years, you'll be letting go. Teens will heed your example more than your advice. Relationships are more important than being right. You can set reasonable limits, similar to your neighbors, while the kids live in your home or are dependent on you. Let them take the consequences of mistakes, but help them prepare for adult life in a competitive world. Good luck.

Consider therapy: You may want to meet with a therapist to get support and help parenting your teens. It is a particularly difficult time to parent and having someone to talk to about these issues can be a huge help. Family therapy is certainly another good option.
