Different scenarios: Memory loss is an older person can have several causes. It can be drug induced, mini-strokes, dementias such as alheimers, and generalized brain atrophy. Sometimes memory loss can actually be depression or sleep deprivation. Only a thorough examination can rule out certain diagnosis and help find the cause. Memory loss is not a normal part of aging in a healthy brain.
