If i have an ankle fracture, why can i still walk on it?

Fibula?: Two bones make up the "ankle".The ability to use a joint has nothing to do with it's fracture status. Please discuss with your dr asap.

Likely: It is not bad, meaning it is in place and stable. I would imagine the walking is somehow protected like in a cam walker boot or something though.....

This is common.: You can often still walk on an ankle fracture because there are many variations of anke fractures, some are simple and some are complicated. If there is only minor trauma and a small fracture bearing weight may only be moderately painful. Very frequently a walkin cast can be used for uncomplicated ankle fractures. I hope this helps.
