RICE: In general, the best way to treat any sprain or strain is by the rice protocol...Rest, ice, compression (wrap), elevation....As long as you have no contraindications, use of an NSAID is usually helpful as well... Ibuprofen or Naproxen are two over the counter options....As the swelling subsides, gentle start range of motion exercises by making circles in the air with the ankle in all directions...
