Sleep apnea: Sleep apnea is usually obstructive in nature and results in increased lung pressures as one breathes out at night. This results in pulmonary hypertension which transmits this pressure back towards the right ventricle of the heart and can result in palpitations.

Yes: Sleep apnea (sa) can definately affect both short term heart rhythm and long term heart health. When your airflow is interrupted, your heart reacts to this under stress, and its speed as well as rhythm can be affected. If you think you have sleep apnea, please seek treatment, as it can be a serious problem.
