Rare but possible: Gangrene just refers to dead tissue. An ingrown toenail can cause an infection that is usually easy to treat, but could be life threatening in a person with diabetes or poor circulation in the feet.

Yes: If you have poor circulation or an infected ingrown toenail that is not taken care of you could get gangrene. It depends on your other medical problems, level of infection, circulation in your toes and whether or not you are taking care of it. You don't ever won't to get gangrene, you should seek treatment way before it gets to this point. Under proper care, this can normally be avoided.
