More functional?YES!: It is extremely complex to treat, but see a true expert for multi-dimensional care & to customize the treatment. Increasingly, psychoactive meds play an important role. Fairly common & non-standard meds need be considered carefully & selected & titrated for the individual, possibly addressing features as anxiety, anger, mood, hyperactivity, etc.

Not really: R-baclofen reduces social withdrawal in children with fragile x syndrome. Studies in autism are not completed, nor is it commercially available. No medication " fixes" lack of theory of mind. If the person is developmentally 6 yrs. Or > , social skills group therapy can help. Risperdal & Abilify (aripiprazole) help with anxiety & behavioral outbursts & work almost instantly if given as a dissiolvable film.
