Every 6 hours: You can apply silvadene (silver sulfadiazine) anywhere from 2 x per day up to 4 x per day. Apply with a thick coating.

Second-degree burns: ..., such as an abrasion or "road rash, " will heal on their own, given good wound care and good nutrition. Burns on the face should be gooped up with antibiotic ointment several times a day; no dressings are necessary. Burn wounds elsewhere can have antibiotic ointment or silver sulfadiazine (silvadene) applied and then dressed with dressing changes daily in conjunction with a bath/shower.

Thin coat: Silvadene (silver sulfadiazine) is used to suppress bacterial growth. It only takes a thin application, best applied with a gauze pad.It needs to be washed and re-applied every 8 hours. It is ineffective after 8 hours.

Pretty good: Silver sulfadiazine cream is a cornerstone of burn treatment. It revolutionized burn care. That being said, a good surgical team needs to follow your burns to monitor for complications.
