Red: If the surrounding skin is red and swollen it is likely infected. If the drainage changes color or consistency it is likely getting infected.

Many possible signs: Signs of infection can include: fever, chills, nausea, vomiting. Skin changes may include increased redness, blistering, swelling, discoloration of the skin, and skin tightness. Deep infections could involve the bone or the joint which could cause the joint to become painful and stiff. If in doubt see you physician and get the proper care.
